Once Shane had woken up he pulled on the nearest pair of jeans and was now walking around looking for a clean shirt. He could have sworn he threw in some laundry when he got home last night but it wasn’t in the washer or dryer. With a grunt of annoyance, his bare feet moved across into the dining room to find his clothes weren’t there. Finally in the living room he found the basket shoved in a corner. On the desk was a note from his father. ’Got called in. Here’s your d*mn clothes..’ Yup, that was Shane’s dad for you. he grabbed the shirt nearest the top and pulled it over his head while he went back to get some food from the kitchen.
A large bowl of Chocolate Mini Wheats was made with some extra sugar thrown in as he padded through the house. He yawned right before taking his first bite from the bowl he was carrying around. It was a typical Saturday. Shane slept in, putting off his work for school and would probably watch whatever crap was on unless he got the chance to do something. Just because he was in college didn’t mean his routine had to change. He ran a hand through his tousled hair to try and make it look somewhat neat. But it didn’t matter much to him as he settled on the couch in front of their somewhat outdated television. Shane made a note that his first big check, he’d buy his dad a new flat screen.
He was flipping through the channels with one hand aimlessly as he balanced the bowl in his lap and ate with the other. There was some sort of Law & Order marathon he had decided to settle on when his doorbell rang. Swallowing the spoonful currently in his mouth he called out ”Hold on!” Shane settle his bowl on the side table before he finally pushed up and made his way to the door. ”Hello?” was uttered as he opened the door.

Vienna hadn't been Elizabeth's Hollow long, but in such a small town you learned about the people who lived here quickly. One name that had come up during conversation surprised her. A name she hadn't heard in years. Shane Alexander Miller. A fling from the past. It was incredible they had ended up in the same town. The two hadn't had a serious past. They were friends, a summer fling. It was quick and fun, anything but a serious relationship. Vienna wasn't normally a spontaneous person, but she really wanted to catch up and surprise him. Plus, she didn't know many people yet and a familiar face would be comforting. The brunette had gotten his address from a classmate, who was more than happy to give out someone's address to a stranger for some reason. She scanned the street signs, looking for the right names. Finally, she reached the street he lived on. Her driving slowed as she searched for his house, reading the numbers on the buildings. Eventually, the number came up and she pulled into the driveway.
Her stomach was in knots as she stepped out onto the pavement. She was second guessing this trip. So she was just going to show up at his house, uninvited, expecting... Expecting nothing? She combed her fingers through her hair, pushing back from her face. What the hell was she doing? Vienna stood for a moment beside the car door, half-ready to get back into the vehicle. But she knew she had come here for a reason, she really did want to see Shane - even if he might not want to see her. She huffed quietly, giving up on her internal dilemma. It wasn't that big of a deal. He would probably be happy to see her. Maybe. Her heels clicked along the driveway's pavement as she approached the door. He might not even be home. Part of her wished that might be true. Vienna reached up, knocking the door three times. Instantly, she regretted the move. Her hands fell to her side and she bit her bottom lip, something she did when she was nervous. Vienna pushed back her sunglasses onto the top of her head, and toyed with her necklace as she waited for a reply. From inside, she heard his voice faintly. The sound of footsteps approaching grew louder until the door was pulled open. And there was Shane, disheveled and probably confused. He was not a morning person. Vienna cursed herself internally for being so ambitious and coming to his house before noon. He mumbled a greeting as he opened the door. Vienna pulled at her jacket. "Hey sleepy-head." She chimed, her voice easily slipping from nervous to teasing in his presence. The corners of her lips turned up into a cute smirk. "Surprised to see me?"

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. It took Shane a moment to put a name to face. The summer after him and Chrisleigh broke up…that one time summer fling deal he had. Nothing serious but Vienna had left his life as quickly as she had arrived in it. It had been a fun summer, but none tied with the regret or bad feelings that often came with a bad break-up. When the name finally clicked his face changed from very confused to one of joy in a sense. Shane ran a hand through his hair to try to smooth it out. ”Holly sh*t!” Surprised probably didn’t begin to cover it. Shocked, confused, happy and surprised was more like it. Despite the slightly “romantic” things they did, he remembered how close they had been that summer just talking and hanging out.
He stepped back to give her room to enter the pretty much empty home. ”Come in. Um I’m not sure if surprised is the right word, but I think I’ll figure it out soon enough.” As the door closed, he made his way back to the living room. It was a lot neater then it could be for two men living there, glad his mother’s cleanliness had stuck with them somewhat. ”I was in the middle of breakfast. Want anything? Cereal, toast, coffee?” Since it had been so long he was a little unsure of what to do or where to start with the conversation. Offering something to drink or eat seemed like a good place to begin.
Though it was a surprise, Shane was glad Vienne was in town no matter the length of time. No, he wasn’t up for hoping back on the fling train but perhaps the friend train. Despite the short time they had known each other, Shane had grown comfortable around Vienne. He hadn’t divulged everything about pas relationships, but he was able to tell her about his mother’s death and his hopes to become a lawyer as well as about his friends and favorite things he liked. They had been comfortable without being together; that is what a good friend was really. Secretly he hoped she was staying in town for a little while. There were a ton of fun things they could do together and he could introduce her to all his guy and even girl friends.
