i gotta make a home out of somewhere..
..and you're all over this city
It was a day for celebration! Jude had received a call from the University that the position she wanted has come open and an interview with her name on it was scheduled for Monday morning. Oh, it made her heart skip a beat. And this celebration needed more than the usual couple of glasses of red wine. Jude had been busy outside with her lab, Jack, most of the day until she got the call, and now it was time to kick back and enjoy a few before the interview nerves set in. Before heading out for the night she grabbed the half-burnt joint she had left in the ashtray on the bar of the kitchen. Grabbing the lighter next to it she took a decent sized hit, enough for her to wander through the world with a smile on her face for the rest of the night. She didn't get mentally slow or giggly when she was high, she was just.. very pleasant. And touchy, oh goodness, Jude was touchy. She set it back down in the ashtray and exhaled long and slow, closing her eyes with the warm, relaxed feeling washing over her. Jude Marie wasn't a stoner, no, but sometimes weed just made things better. And as a responsible adult, she knew when was and wasn't the time for gettin' hiiigghhhh, and now seemed pretty damn good.
Jude checked the time when she hopped in the car. 7:37. Driving really wasn't necessary, but she'd rather drive home than have the chance of getting mugged or worse walking home in a drunken stupor, and getting mugged and worse walking to the bar high. She backed the car up and as soon as she pulled into the parking lot, about 2 minutes later, she felt rather guilty for just...not walking. "Lazy sumbitch." She laughed at herself, smile lingering just a little too long on her lips as she waded through the Saturday-night crowd of people that liked to smoke outside.
She herself lit up a cowboy killer and headed inside. The doors were open because of the nice, warm breeze, and so smoke hadn't lingered and made the place stale for the day. She slid gingerly into a seat and ashed, and then spoke up as the bartender passed. "Gin and tonic with lime, please?" She flashed that killer smile and rested back against the seat, taking another long drag and hoping that something entertaining came her way.

This Saturday wasn't anything unusual for Drew's taste. She'd woken up with a small headache, but it wasn't anything that a cigarette and some scrambled eggs couldn't fix. She was happy that whoever she'd been with last night had either left after Drew had fallen asleep, or had gotten up early to avoid the 'morning after' awkwardness. What was her name? Something complicated that made the woman believe that she probably had a side job as a stripper with the simple name like 'Candy'. Well, whoever she was had clearly gotten the hint that it was a one night thing, and that Drew probably didn't want to see her last night staring her in the face when she woke up. Although from what she could recall, the wild brunette knew her way around, which was perfectly fine with Drew.
After a few visits to client's houses, she found herself back at home with a lot of extra money stashed in the back pocket of her jeans. And what better reason to go out did anyone need to give her? She slipped into the bedroom of her apartment, glancing at the top of her clothes drawer that still had flecks of white powder scattered on the top. "Just booze tonight," she muttered to herself, trying to ignore the call of doing the rest of the blow she'd stashed under her bed. That stuff was reserved for special occasions; say the days that she really felt low. And although the pot stuffed into her hoodie pocket in the closet sounded appealing as well, Drew ignored her urges, picking out a white button up to accompany her jeans out to the bar tonight.
She made the drive to Grumpy's without much delay, feeling rather odd that she was there this early in the night. Well, it'd just be an early drive back home, then. Drew parked her jeep in the lot, stowing her things into her pockets and made her way through the crowd outside. With a sense of almost urgency, she walked up to the bartender. "Hey, Mike, can I just get a shot of something strong and then a beer?" she asked, recognizing the man behind the counter that usually served her. He nodded and she passed along the money, quickly receiving a shot of clear liquid and her bottle of Miller Lite. Drew took the shot, setting the glass down and allowing whatever pepperminty liquid settle down her throat. Well, this was a good start so far. Cracking open her beer, she scanned the room, waiting for something, or rather, someone appealing to catch her eye.

It really is rare that someone can catch your attention just by walking in the room. Even rarer still is that they sit down next to you, like a magnet of sorts that neither of you can see. Jude had had her back turned towards the door, finishing up her cigarette with long, slow drags and enjoying the twilight that made the bar dance in oranges and pinks. For some reason, Jude turned at just the right moment and saw a woman walk in the door and brown eyes watched her hurry over to the bartender. She chuckled a little to herself as she ordered a shot and a beer - Jude had been there many times, and was sure to be there many more. She sighed softly, leaning just a little to left, sliding her gin and tonic along with her hand down the bar to support her. Jude's humor was sometimes misconstrued as pick up lines and insincere remarks, but she always meant well. "Bad day?" she asked tentatively and with a warm smile, just in case she had had a really bad day and was ready to bite Jude's head off. That had happened more than Jude thought it ought to of as well. The smile on her face was almost a permanent thing, very little seemed to discourage the brunette.
Jude then lit up another cigarette, chain smoking being a vice of hers when she was drinking, slowing sliding back over the chair that she had leaned on to make her voice loud enough for the woman to hear. She shifted it to her right hand, long fingers extending an unlit one to the woman. She knew Grumpy's allowed smoking on Saturdays when the weather was nice because they could open all the doors and air the place out, but she figured this woman knew that too, she just looked like a regular. Or maybe Jude was just high and wanted someone to talk to, familiarity.
The last of her drink went down her throat and she set the glass back down, clinking it softly as her feet hit the floor from where they had been curled up against the bar. It was then that Jude extended her hand to the girl "Jude." She announced, and the thought went through her head 'Would I normally be doing this?' Jude was not necessarily shy, but approaching strangers in a bar was really a hit or miss. They either wanted someone to talk to, or they wanted to be left the fuck alone, and she wondered if this sleepy warm feeling was causing her to make stupid mistakes, cause she sure as shit couldn't fistfight if this drug was influencing her to talk to all the wrong people.

God, she'd forgotten how good it felt to drink without being high. Or without having to watch after her money. Tonight, Drew was treating herself to a wide selection of alcohol to get her good and drunk so she could sleep through the night without waking up in a cold sweat after all the drugs wore off. Sure, she'd probably have a bad hangover in the morning, but it would all be okay. She wasn't even planning on going after a girl. It was going to be all about Drew O'Connel tonight, what she wanted and what she could enjoy by herself. However, plans were meant to be broken. Giving a trademark smirk, she turned to face whomever had just addressed her. "No, not a bad day. Really good actually," she said. "A night in honor of myself."
Cigarettes. Fuck. She'd forgotten hers in the jeep. And that was all the way outside, and she was all the way inside. Smiling again, she took the cigarette from the woman's hand. "Thanks, I needed this," she said. Igniting it quickly with her silver zippo, she took a breathe, exhaling a few moments after with a satisfied look on her face. Drew took a drink from her beer, enjoying the taste in her mouth. It'd been a while since she'd had a beer.. or at least a beer she could remember tasting. There'd been countless shots in her body lately. They got a person drunker faster, and she liked that. But right now, she was enjoying the simple things in life.
It wasn't an every day thing where a woman approached her. Especially not in a town like Elizabeth's Hollow. Tonight felt sort of special as her companion seemed to be interested in whatever Drew seemed to offer. Her smile not leaving her lips, she extended her hand to shake. "I'm Drew. Nice to meet you," she said, leaning to Jude's ear to make sure she could be heard clearly. Letting go of her hand, she reached for her beer, taking a swig. "So what brings a girl like you to Grumpy's tonight?" Drew asked, replacing the beer on her lips with the cigarette.
