With her arms crossed and her tote back hanging from her left elbow, she walked alone on the fun, bustling boardwalk. As soon as winter had ended, everyone came rushing here to enjoy the warmth and fun of the boardwalk. The stuffed themselves with cotton candy and fried doe, only to get rid of it all after a crazy, spinning ride. People would go for bonfires ont he beach below, or play some of the rip-off games to win their date a prize... Uhg. Dates. She was supposed to be on one now. With a frustrated sigh, Aiyana looked down to her phone--an iPhone. There were no missed calls. No voicemails, no text messages explaining why this guy who had asked her on a date wasn't here. The Native American girl clenched her teeth and angerly shoved the phone back in the pocket of her unzipped 'free hugs' hoodie, revealing her favorite shirt beneith that matched her purple converse. She had even wore her favorite nail polish (which she was never able to wear back at the reservation). She had worn all this just for Dillon, and what does he do? He stands her up. Aiyana glanced around her one more time, making sure he wasn't going to pop up at any second, and gave up waiting. Highly irritated, she stormed to one of the food stands. I swear, if they don't have anything vegetarian, I'm gonna shoot something.
It wasn't too long of a wait in line, surprisingly. Within moments, she was facing the clerk, and she smiled kindly to him. He smiled politely back. "Would you guys happen to have anything vegetarian?" she inquired with a nervous laugh added at the end. The man just chuckled and nodded. 'Yup, we've got veggie pizza, veggie burgers, and veggie-dogs.' She grinned. "I'll take the pizza." In a moment, it was all ready and she payed and was eating as she walked. She felt relieved, thankful that her day was getting at least a bit better. Although she didn't have a ride home. She'd hitched a ride with a couple people from school she didn't know very well, counting on getting a ride home from Dillon. Now, she was stuck until she found someone she might remotely know from school. She might not have friends, but she knew people. Sort of. With a sigh, she finished off the slice of veggie pizza and continued walking alone. She watched the people walk bye, all either families with kids, a group of friends, or a couple. No one was alone. No one accept her. Her shoulders slumped a bit, wishing she was home either riding her horse, or snuggled up with her puppy watching some tragic love movie like the pathetic, lonely dork she was. Well, you wanted to be emancipated, and this is what you got. she reminded herself. This is what I wanted, remember?
Aiyana continued walking, though, hoping to spot someone she might be able to snag a ride from. No luck. She just wanted to go home. Here, she felt lonely and bitter like those single, fourty-year-old women on TV. The Shoshone girl sighed, brushing her thick, dark hair out of her face, brushing the necklace her grandmother had made for her. Suddenly, she felt homesick. She missed training horses with her father, painting with her mother, and crafting with her grandmother. She missed the reservation and all the ways of her people. She missed her tribe. Sighing heavily, she moved her eyes to the ground, not wanting to watch everyone anymore. She shifted her thoughts to the buckskin mustang waiting for her at home, and the little westie puppy waiting to greet her, imagining being home. She'd find a way home. She had to at some point, right?
