He had two do two in the term of his pre-law years and this semester he was doing his second one. Creative…something. He didn’t care too much about it like he did his law classes. Those ones got him excited to go to class and do the work. Mock trials were often part of classwork which was awesome to him. His dad was proud that Shane was becoming a lawyer but would also be glad if he followed and became a mechanic.
Being a mechanic wasn’t Shane’s dream though…
He looked at his schedule he had written down and Shane found the room he needed. 319. It was auditorium style which was good for him because then he could sit somewhere in the middle and fiddled with games while only half-paying attention. While he was serious about classwork, English wasn’t like his law classes so it wasn’t high up in his attention meter.
He found a clear seat, noticing few people in the classroom. Class didn’t start for another forty-five minutes, but Shane wanted to check up on his emails. Some of the kids and even adults he taught beginner courses to emailed him questions they had or even concerns. Mainly on how to do things or care of their guitars. He took them gracefully and helped out, remembering his mother’s years of teaching experience he had picked up on with the little time they had had together.

Chrisleigh was panicking. She had lost her schedule the day before, and all she remembered that her class was in the morning and in room 319; she didn’t even know what class it was. It was just like her to lose something that important. She figured she could get another schedule, but she didn’t want to risk being late on the first day of classes. She figured if she got there early enough she could just wait until class started.
She threw random notebooks into her bag, hoping she got the right one, and rushed out of her room. Already, she could tell that the new semester was not going to be a good one. Her last semester had been interesting. She had taken biology, one of her favorite subjects, despite the fact that she was majoring in English. After that class she had considered switching majors, it wasn’t too late in her college career, but she had decided her real passion was writing and reading. Some nerd she was.
She reached the classroom and slowly opened the door, praying that the class hadn’t started. She was lucky. There were only a few people scattered around the room. She scanned the room trying to decide where to sit when she noticed someone. She couldn’t believe it. It was Shane Miller. Her ex-boyfriend from high school. She hadn’t talked to him since he graduated, four years ago. She contemplated sitting in the back away from him, she didn’t know how he still felt about her, but she finally decided on sitting next to him, figuring they could still be friends even after their history together.
She walked over to where he was sitting. When she was standing in front of him, she smiled and said “Hey there, long time no see.” She took the seat next to him, placing her bag on the ground. Turning back towards him, she noticed that he definitely looked older. She wondered if he was still trying to be a lawyer. “What have you been up to...these past few years?” she asked carefully, trying to gauge his reaction to her.Tagged:: Shane Outfit:: Here Notes:: None

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. As soon as he was done here, Shane would have to go teach one of the three beginner’s classes he taught and then come back for one last time for a later class since the morning one had filled up. The pay wasn’t great but that’s why he held another job as well. Shane didn’t want to burden his father with debt from his schooling so he took the scholarships he had, got the bare minimum for a loan possible and then worked to pay the rest. The cancer his mother had had left a lot of bills behind that his father was still trying to pay. And though the hospital was good about it, Shane didn’t want to add to that burden in any way.
Shane was replying to the email of a father of one of his students when someone stood within in his line of sight. It took a double look for him to realize who it was: Chrisleigh Collins, his ex-girlfriend. Shane could only pause before he answered her. ”Yeah..hey” The two of them had dated long ago and Shane still felt many of the feeling he had before; it had been a little bittersweet ending. Chrisleigh had been at a party….drinking….without Shane….and well, many can guess what happened form there. He found out form one of his friends but didn’t believe it until she told him herself. For the last year and a half roughly he was at school, he had simply avoided her. It wasn’t too hard seeing as they were two grades apart but it was still hard seeing her.
Shane shifte din his seat slightly and shrugged. ”School and working to stay in school. You know I always wanted to be a lawyer.” there was a half smile on his face as he cleared his throat. ”So how’ve you been Chris?” It was definitely tense and a little hard to be sitting across from her like this but Shane could do it. He was a big enough man not to be an ass to ever girl who broke his heart or every guy who was a d*uche to him.

At Shane’s hesitation and tone of voice, Chrisleigh began regretting her decision to come over to him. He didn’t seem angry exactly, but maybe still a little hurt. She couldn’t really tell, but she would not have blamed him if he hated her and told her to get away. After what she did to him in high school, she knew she deserved it. Even after years had passed she still felt bad. But she believed in new beginnings and she hoped they could be friends, because she remembered how much she enjoyed his company.
“Yeah, I can’t believe that’s stuck with you all this time. I’ve changed my idea about a career so many times,” she said with a smile, thinking about Shane back in high school. He had been so determined to be a lawyer, and she knew that he would be good at it because he was always good at winning arguments. It was nice to know that some things never changed. “I still haven’t completely decided, actually,” she added as an afterthought, thinking about her two current decisions.
“I’ve been good,” Chrisleigh said honestly in response to his question. And she had been. She had hated herself for a while after what she did to Shane, but she moved on. From the way he had ignored her, she knew she had hurt him, and she felt bad, but she couldn’t spend her whole life trying to make it up to him. “I’m working at the barn still,” she added randomly. Now that she was here, she didn’t really know what to say to Shane. She began fiddling with her necklace, a nervous habit of hers that she had had since she was a kid, while she thought about what to say. “So you’re taking an English class. Was it because you had to or have you really changed that much since we last talked?” she teased him, knowing that he didn’t like English all that much.Tagged:: Shane Outfit:: Here Notes:: None

L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Shane always gave a little bit of himself to any girl he was with. While he could be a guy with his friends and loosen up with all his friends in general, he was a romantic guy when it came down to it. He had watching his parents through the stairwell to thank for that. His father was always one who came home with a flower randomly or insisted that him and his wife dance in the living room to no music. Shane always admired that and learned from it as he got older. So when Chrisleigh and him had ended, a little piece went away. It wasn’t just a girl thing to lose parts yourself with every person you were with in your life.
Shane’s smile spread lightly as he shrugged his shoulders. ”Well I enjoy it and I also promised my mom.” Shane nodded thoughtfully. His mom had died nine years prior, succumbing to the cancer that spread throughout her body. It was one last thing he could do for her, even if she wasn’t here. He hit the send button on the email and let the screen rest as it was. ”Well you’ve always been more of a free spirit. I doubt you’ll settle down on one thing ever.” That was the Chrisleigh he always remembered all those years prior, unless she had changed without him knowing and that was a very real possibility.
It was a little hard for him to hear she had been good. There were days Shane wished she had suffered even slightly as much as he had, but that was a stretch. His fingers tapped his leg thoughtfully as he listened to her about her life. ”That’s good. You deserve to be happy.” Even though he hurt and wished back then that she had suffered even a little, he still wanted her life to be well and happy. He was a very twisted person in that sense. ”Unfortunately it’s required I take two semesters. At least if I pass, I get excepted to finish out my law degree fully here.” With his dad being his only family left, he didn’t want to go too far from Elizabeth’s Hollow. ”What about you? One of your many majors you are trying?”

Chrisleigh nodded at his comment. She had never met Shane’s mother, but she had always heard a lot about her. She thought it was nice that he was keeping his promise to his mom. One final present to her. At his comment about herself, she smirked. He had always understood her better than anyone else, and even after all the time apart it seemed that he still knew her. “Yeah, it’s just hard to decide sometimes,” she said, laughing. She didn’t think she could be blamed for being that that. She just wanted to see what was out there and not settle on anything because who knew what she would like the next year. ‘If you settle, you’ll be held back’ is what Chris believed, and she usually stuck to that motto. Which might be why her and Shane broke up…. But that was in the past and she couldn’t regret it forever. Who knows, maybe it was for the better. Maybe he is happily in a relationship that he got after their break up.
At his next comment, Chris could tell that maybe he wasn’t all that happy. What he said was nice, but the tone suggested that he wasn’t all that glad for her. She briefly wondered what that was about, before shrugging it off. “Thanks,” she said with a small smile. “Yeah I’m majoring in English. I don’t know what I want to do with it, but I figure I have time to decide,” she explained. She thought about her career options. She was in the middle of picking between two options: an author or an English teacher. Being an author was appealing because she could do almost anything between writing, but she knew it was kind of unrealistic. Who knew how much money she would make, or if she would even get published. A teacher, on the other hand, was a more structure job, which sucked, but she had always wanted to help and teach kids. L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. When he was little, his mom and Shane had been close. Once the cancer set in, Shane originally wanted to be a doctor. But his mom had said it was a foolish idea-having to see people you grew attached to dying or having to become cold so you don’t become attached. That’s when Shane really reached careers with his parents at the young age of eleven years old. That’s when he chose to be a lawyer and promised her, no matter what, he’d become one. His mom told him as long as he because a prosecutor and help the good people out there and not get greedy. Shane had promised and had kept that promise even though at times it had been hard and he thought of giving up so many times in his life.
Shane shrugged and gazed about the room. ”Well try a little bit of everything you like then. Get it out of your system at least.” A light chuckle left his lips. That’s what college was for. Even for his electives he had tried different classes of things like cooking, automotives(to please his dad), and even environmental classed. In the end, those proved to be helpful. He came to understand different things so he could help any clients who needed his help in suing their auto shop employees, a nuclear plant or a restaurant. Or at least he hoped it gave him a better understanding.
After the break-up, Shane hadn’t really dated. He had one of his very, very few hook-ups to help him get over it, but hadn’t dated. Mainly because he hated found someone else he connected enough with. Sure, he had plenty of female friends but no relationship. But he cared for those friends just the same as they were great social support and really fun to hang out with. People began to file in just in case the professor arrived early and he didn’t want her to continue standing, so Shane politely he offered Chrisleigh a seat to him. ”If you want, you can sit here. If you’re not meeting anyone that is.” Shane followed her movements before he had a shrug. ”Yeah depending on what your other options are. You don’t want to be stuck on a waiting list trying to transfer into another major. What are your other options you were thinking of?” Though he played around with different classes, he never strayed from law.
That’s how Shane was-a very dedicated man in all aspects be in education, his family or a girl he was dating, which at the moment was no one. He had been on a few casual dates, but nothing which tied him down really for one reason or another. Shane was alright with that though. After all, if you couldn’t be happy while single what chances do you have of being in a happy and healthy relationship after that? Yes, he had some regrets, disappointments and slightly hard feelings pertaining to past relationships-things he wish had been different or he could do over. But he never regretted the relationship or the person themselves, just the actions that may have led to where they are now. After all, each moment made him got him where e was now even if it was a slightly cliché line of thought.

Chrisleigh considered herself lucky that she had both parents still with her. She didn’t know what she would do if she lost one because they were such an important part of her life. They ran the barn she worked and rode at and she knew that if one of them died the barn would have to be sold. There was also the fact that, while she wasn’t extremely close to her parents, she usually told them everything and took their advice, or most of it, to heart. If she lost that, she would have a hard time recovering. She admired Shane in that he was able to move on with his life. She would probably still have been mourning.
“No, I’m not meeting anyone. So that means you’re stuck with me all class,” she said with a laugh, taking the seat next to him. As people began walking in, she recognized a few of her friends and greeted them before they walked past to find their own seats. She knew a lot of them because they were English majors like herself and they had a lot of the same classes. She wasn’t really that close to any of them, but she didn’t mind hanging out with them every once in a while. She was not one to skip out on a good college party, although she knew that she should probably concentrate more on her academics than she was. She was a bad procrastinator, and she knew that if she stayed in more during the week she would be able to get more things done.
“Yeah, that’s true,” Chris said, thinking about the problems changing majors would bring. For now she was content with her English major, but the way she worked she didn’t know what she would want to be doing a year from now. Choosing a job would be very difficult. “I’ve always been considering Biology as a major. I used to want to be a veterinarian, but eight years of college turned me off from that,” she said with a fake shudder and a laugh. She thought of Shane’s career choice and said “Don’t you need to go to Law school or something after this? Even more college?” She thought back to her previous statement. She really did love animals, and working at the barn she had gotten experience treating them, but she would not be able to put up with school for four extra years. She was too impatient for that. She decided on English instead of biology during her senior year. Her English teacher had been amazing and taught her so much, and she knew, or thought she knew, that that’s what she wanted to be. Now she was straying from that idea, and she didn’t really like it. She knew that she needed a change in her life, and it wouldn’t be a change of majors. It would be a change of personality. She had to learn how to settle down, take things slow, and stick to one thing. It would be hard, but she knew it was necessary for her to lead a good life over the years.
