IS IT TRUE THAT YOU'RE ALWAYS THIS BREATHTAKING?
you're smart and you're willing ,

Mikki waded through the crowd of people on the sidewalk, her mother's hand-me-down Coach purse positioned on her shoulder, iPhone headphones snaking their way into her jean's pocket, playing a soft melody from Natasha Bedingfield. Mikki kept going, not exactly sure where. She liked to just walk, not caring where shewas going, as long as she was outside. She wasn't fond of Springtime, but the weather was nice, so she couldn't complain too much. She continued on, her long dark curls swinging behind her. No one would be after her for a while; Mikki had told her family she was going for a walk, and when she says that, she means, "Don't text me or call me, or I'll bite your head off." Mikki was addicted to the outside, couldn't stay inside for too long, or she'd go crazy. Her favorite part of being outside was the sun and the sky. The sky was clear that day, barely a cloud in sight, just endless blue.
She turned her gaze back to the sidewalk as to not walk into anyone. That had happened too many times in Seattle and London. London. She sighed at the thought of her original hometown. Born in Seattle, Washington. A beautiful place, but always raining and dreary. London was the same too. She was glad that Elizabeth's Hollow was beautiful. Not as rainy, only when it should be. The weather was perfect. But she couldn't help but long for London, where her best friends lived, and one died the year she turned ten. The memory was still fresh, although it had happened almost seven years ago.
Her attention shifted to the day she moved to Elizabeth's Hollow. Her family hadn't spent much time in Seattle, a year at most. Since day one there, she had wished she stayed behind. But she couldn't emancipate herself. Her parents would never forgive her, and she didn't know why. It didn't matter anyway, because she had gotten used to the new town, and even made some friends at school. She was glad she'd be turning eighteen in May and graduating the following month. She even knew the first thing she'd do as a leagal adult. Get a passport and fly off to London.
The thought made her smile.
Mikki's mouth watered for coffee. It was a legal addiction she had. She wasn't sure how long it had been since she had one, or even how long she'd been walking. She found the shops and walked around for a bit until she found a coffee shop, bought her coffee with a mumbled, "Thank you," to the cashier and walked outside again, onto the sidewalk. She continued on until she came across the library. She hadn't been in a library in a while. She decided to try it out. She walked inside and nodded at the librarian behind the counter.
Mikki continued on to the fiction section. She wasn't sure exactly what to get for a book. She read all the time, but she always bought her books in the store, not just borrowed them for a while and brought them back. She settled for a murder mystery and walked back to a table. She pulled out her headphones and turned off the music. She cracked open the book and started to read. This is more like it, she thought to herself and smiled as she started to read.
